In our last blog post we talked about a few of the devices you can add to a smart home automation system. For this post, we wanted to expand upon that list.
Pet care
Do you have cats or dogs at home? Are there times when you’re away for a bit longer than you’d planned, and you’re well aware that Fido or Fluffy is going to be a bit peeved that you didn’t make it home in time to serve them dinner? Smart connected pet feeders can allow you to program when your animals get their meals. If your fur babies are used to eating at 4pm but you’re not going to make it home until 5:30, there’s no need to fret. Your four-legged family members can still get their meal on time.
House plants
Let’s say you’re planning on heading out of town for a few days, but you don’t feel you need to hire a house sitter. You don’t have anything that’s going to be delivered, and there aren’t any fur-babies that need to be cared for. You do, however, have lawn and house plants that need to be watered. If you’re wondering if you can automate this- you can. Some smart devices can be programmed to water your house (and lawn) plants on your preferred schedule.
Smart locks
Smart locks and garage door openers are great to have installed at your home. Why? Because they allow you to provide access to guests and visitors if you’re not home. Imagine you’ll be out of town for a few days and you need to have someone stop in to check on your houseplants, your cat, and collect your mail. Instead of giving them a house key (which could easily be duplicated)- you can provide them with a smart lock code. This will allow them to punch in a pre-designated set of numbers, onto the lock, which will allow them entry into your home. Smart locks not only lock and unlock doors, they can also provide you with a log of when that person entered (and exited) your residence.
